Theme Song And Quick Hello

SPEAKER_00

Two best friends talking fast. We're missing to our case, we're having a blast. Seeing these dreams, clicking on screens, it was all bad. Like whatever. Ever, never, never. Lapping, sharing, our scoring forever. We'll take you back like whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to Like Whatever, a podcast for, by, and about Gen X. I'm Nicole, and this is my BFFF, Heather. Hello. So today, my um horoscope said today was supposed to be a lucky day for me.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. It's just been really good. Did you get to see me? Of course.

SPEAKER_02

This is the only good thing that's happened to me today. Uh yeah. Really frustrating day, but just little things.

SPEAKER_04

I get it.

SPEAKER_02

I had to blow my horn twice on the way down here. I never blow my horn at people.

SPEAKER_04

Two different occasions. This is outrageous. This, this, the I don't know what is happening.

SPEAKER_02

The traffic is crazy. It looks like it's Friday.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's been this whole week. Oh, it's a full moon.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That explains a lot.

SPEAKER_04

This whole week has been nonsensical. Just brutal. Traffic has been a nightmare.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it is. So I think last week when we recorded the first time, because we recorded twice last week.

Fauci Fatigue And COVID Rehashing

SPEAKER_02

We did. You mentioned that you were living for Hunter Biden in the first recording. And I don't think you did it in the second one. I didn't. So still loving Hunter Biden, but I am living for Fauci right now.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I did get to see glimpses of him today.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I feel so bad for him because I'm sure this is not how he wanted to end his career. Um but him pleading the fifth to every question. I was listening to public radio. They asked him what the day was, and he said, due to the advisement of my They asked him what the carpet, what color the carpet? They asked him what color his tie was, and he pled the fifth on everything. And I was like, you go. He's like, I've had enough of this bullshit. I'm not giving you all anything. Did you and it's all because of um Rand Paul, yeah, who keeps trying to knock him down? Did you know Fauci had a thousand-page personal diary on his work computer and Rand Paul released? Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Why? What to what end is all this nonsense about? It's six years after COVID. Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

All he did was science, it's done, it's over. Bad mouth anybody. He didn't try to pull anything. He didn't.

SPEAKER_04

It's because of these fucking conspiracy theorists who like to make everything and and like I've said before, there have been other times, and I don't know if y'all know what's happening right now under the current administration, which just goes to show you the issue with COVID was the fact that it wasn't stopped prior to getting here, like Ebola was under Obama, because I read a whole thing about it, how they were extremely concerned. I remember that. And they stopped it. And everybody was like, Oh, they made all this much ado about nothing. And because they stopped it.

SPEAKER_02

I know people are so damned up.

SPEAKER_04

Because they didn't let it get here. And then you see what happens when they do let it get here, COVID happens. Yep. Well, and now there's a screw worm that comes up from Mexico now. There is.

SPEAKER_02

That thing is gross.

SPEAKER_04

This parasite on lettuce, yes, that's causing all kinds of issues again because they cut the CDC.

SPEAKER_02

And we now have, I think, three cases of the measles confirmed in Delaware. Just in Delaware. Exactly. It's finally here. That's all happened in the past few weeks. So wait till the kids go back to school now.

SPEAKER_04

And then that's this is what the problem is. So if you don't stop it before it gets here, like say the screw worm and whatever parasite is all over the lettuce, which luckily for me, I don't eat a whole lot of lettuce. So I do not have the parasite. And I really don't know in danger of getting it. You are not. The screw worm, though, is in cattle. And I do eat a lot of cattle.

SPEAKER_03

You do.

SPEAKER_04

You do. Yeah. That's that can that is concerning. Screw worms are concerning to me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they're not anything I want. No. Um, but why do we have to keep rehashing COVID? I know. Fauci left. Let him go.

SPEAKER_04

It's over. It's it's done.

SPEAKER_02

There's but it's all this plan that Trump has to go after everyone. Yeah, he's his enemies.

SPEAKER_04

His mortal enemies. I know. And of course I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know. But can you say if you if you if they ask you, I mean, I'll I guess you'd be in contempt, but instead of pleading the fifth, can you just say, like, uh, real quick, like I plead the fifth. Due to the, you know, my attorney said I plead the fifth and I'm not in the Epstein files one million times. Because that's what I would do. And I'm not in the Epstein files one million times. I plead the fifth, but I'm not in the Epstein files one million times. I would say that over and over. Can you do that? Like, why can't you do that? Why can't you just say it?

SPEAKER_02

Maybe change it up once in a while and say, I'm not even in there once.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm not. You didn't see my name in there at all.

SPEAKER_02

Not at all.

SPEAKER_04

But that's what I would do. Like at some point, somebody is gonna have to take take one for the team and just take it and just stand up to this piece of shit.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But I know, well, the problem is I I know a big thing with Fauci is his family and stuff have been threatened as well. And I think that's probably where a lot of people draw the line to keep their mouths shut to protect their family. Like if it was just them, they were coming after.

SPEAKER_04

Here's another thing. Like, okay, Mega that doesn't listen to this. But maybe there's one of you or you know somebody. Why? Why is it necessary to threaten? Okay, if you don't like somebody, you don't like somebody. Right. I get it. Yeah. You don't have to like everybody. I can't stand the president of the United States right now. Yeah, there's a lot of people I don't like. That the majority of government I can't stand. I'm not threatening anybody's family because they disagree with me. Right. That's just ridiculous. It is. And you wonder why, you wonder why you're all called predators. Yeah. There you go. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And and everybody wants to take your second amendment because you can't be trusted. That's why. You cannot be trusted with your second amendment right.

SPEAKER_02

Ain't that the truth? So stop with that.

SPEAKER_04

Until you can be trusted. Maybe we should take your second amendment. Only us that are can be responsible gun owners. Because clearly you can't. Yes. Because you're out threatening Fauci's family over a goddamn vaccine. Over the fucking flu. Because you don't want to get a little vaccine. Yeah. Because you don't want to get microchipped. Nobody's microchipping you. Guess what? Nobody fucking cares about you that much. Nobody. Exactly. Literally nobody on this earth cares enough about you to go through all this. And are you carrying a smartphone, you stupid fuck? Because if you are, they know where you are every minute of every day, all the time. They have all of your information. They didn't need to give you a vaccine to get your information. You free willingly gave it to them.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It is not a coincidence that shit pops up on your phone after you've talked about it.

SPEAKER_04

You free of for your own free will gave them everything they needed. And now what? Now you're running around saying, oh, don't give me a vaccine because you'll sit the fuck down. Stupid fuck.

SPEAKER_02

It is.

SPEAKER_04

Nobody cares enough about you.

SPEAKER_02

They really don't. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But that's my sobox for today.

SPEAKER_02

I know.

SPEAKER_04

I did see some of Fauci today, and I was entertained by it. I know. I'm like, you go, Fauci. And I do live for Hunter Biden.

SPEAKER_02

I know. I love that he went on Candace Owens. Yeah. Fauci reminds me of um Marshawn Lynch. I'm just here because they're making it so I don't get sued. Or don't get

Hunter Biden Energy And Euphoria

SPEAKER_02

fined. Yeah. I love that. Speaking of Marshawn Lynch, I had a migraine this weekend, uh, Saturday night until I woke up Monday morning. So I laid on the couch Sunday and I binge the entire third season of Euphoria. Excellent. Have you ever watched Euphoria? No. I love that show. Third season was excellent. It's the last season. But Marshawn Lynch was he's one of the like drug dealer dudes, thugs. So good. I love that man so much. I like him too.

SPEAKER_04

I I find him very entertaining.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. It was good. But yes, go ahead and talk about Hunter now.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I just I just live for Hunter Biden. I mean, you know, what are you gonna do? Like, if you're Hunter Biden, they they they drug you through the ringer. You are a crackhead. You know you're it, you you have nothing to lose. No, he has literally nothing to lose. No, none. Although he did say his dad has told him to stop saying the F-word so much. That's adorable.

SPEAKER_02

And the one oh the I thought you were gonna say you told him to stop poking the bear book. Told him to stop saying the F-word, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And the one the the ice cream thing ice cream was my favorite. Oh, it was so good. Uh, how do I quit you? I mean, just he's such a great troll. And he just doesn't give a fuck.

SPEAKER_02

No, and he shouldn't he's never memorized for politics.

SPEAKER_04

He's so messy, and it's just and he doesn't care. No, and the whole thing about it, which we talked about, which didn't air because um was the when MAGA went nuts, or when they all got that that voicemail that Joe Biden left Hunter Biden when he was in the throes of addiction that was like, hey buddy, you gotta go do something like and everybody was like, Oh, this is the gotcha. Look, Joe Biden knew he was an addict and listen to how he's talking and he's accepting it. And that gets out, and people are like, um, well, that's kind of sweet. And like, that's what you're supposed to like.

SPEAKER_02

It's a parent.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's a parent caring about their child who's clearly having a problem.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. Some parents care about their kids. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Clearly, Joe Biden is one of them.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yes, he is.

SPEAKER_04

He did Hunter was on, I mean he's I've been on like every literally every podcast in the world now. And he was on one of them, and he was talking about his brother and how that did cause brother. That caused his his uh relapse. Oh yeah, yeah. And it was it was because he, you know, it was he he got upset and started crying, you know. It's just it's just it's a shame.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Because it's and then they were and then I didn't see one TikTok was like, um uh Hunter Biden at 17 or 18, and they showed a picture and then Don Jr. at 17 or 18. They're like Hunter Biden now, Don Jr. now, and it was just like Hunter Biden is uh a much better looking man. Yeah, he looks just like his dad. Yeah, and his dad was a was a fine looking man, absolutely looks just like him. Yeah, it's crazy. It's just it was just funny because they were like, and it was the like.

SPEAKER_02

That was good.

Facebook Marketplace Rage Story

SPEAKER_02

Uh I had a Heather Rage moment the other night. Oh, thanks to Facebook Marketplace.

SPEAKER_04

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

So I've been looking for pieces of furniture for my home. And I have ideas in my head of what I want, and it's not anything new. So I've been going to like use furniture stores and marketplace, and I found this side table for the living room, and it was so pretty. It was wood, and like it had marble and brown and flower shapes. I don't know. It was really pretty. And first off, it took me like five or six days to get this chick to communicate. Yeah. I mean, it would go a couple days and she'd send one message and then I wouldn't hear anything again. So we finally get it worked out. I have to drive half an hour to meet her where she wants to meet. I tell her I'll be there at 4:30. I get there at like 425. And I park and I look down at my phone and I don't have a signal where we are. Oh no. Because we're in Delaware. Yeah. That happens around here. Um so I was like, well, I was gonna message her and let her know I was there. So I was just like, all right, well, so I got out of my car and I have a SUV. So I opened the back and I stood at the back of my car. So I was obviously the person there to purchase something. And I waited till five. Not and I'm watching every car that comes in, every car that leaves. I don't I'm assuming I'm nicely assuming something came up, whatever, she couldn't make it, whatever. I'll give her till five. She's not here, I'm gonna leave because there's still no signal. So when I finally get a signal, messages come through for her. I'm here, I'm parked by the school. I guess you aren't coming, I'm leaving. So I message her and I said, I was there at 4.25. I stayed until 5. I was standing in the parking lot with the hatch of my car open, waiting for you to come by. So she writes back, well, maybe you should have checked my messages and responded. And I'm fucking irate now. Like, I am texting so hard. I go to send it, and that bitch blocked me before I could respond. I could have murdered someone. I was so angry, and I am looking for that post. I'm looking how to rate her or anything, and she has just completely cut me out, and I can't do anything, and I'm still mad about it. Oh man. That's the worst. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, or she's right or wrong. I did the best I could with what I had. Me personally, I would have driven around the parking lot to see if anybody looked like they were there to meet with someone. Yeah. I mean, I text her as I was leaving Dover. I'm heading there now. This is what time the GPS says I will be there. Like, what more do you want? It's not like we talked this morning and you have no idea what happened. Like, but I also couldn't use my phone. So, whatever. I'm gonna try to get over it. But I don't feel rage a lot. And if you feel like that all the time, all the time, I don't know how you do it. Every day, all day. I was so angry, yeah. So angry. Yeah, and I just wanted to tell her about herself so bad. I was calling her a CU next Tuesday, stomping around in the house. And it's like from your core. Did you feel it in your core?

SPEAKER_04

It is like, did you feel like you were the inside of a volcano?

SPEAKER_02

I did, I did. That's how and of course, my lovely brain is creating every good comeback that could, I mean, just the best that I could possibly ever think of. And I have nowhere to use it. Yep. Yep. It sucked. I think I'm done with Marketplace. It's too annoying. I also found a coffee table I really liked, and she responded once, like a week ago, and now I haven't heard anything, and I'm just over it. It's too frustrating. I don't like people enough to do it. Like it's too much dependent on somebody else.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't like it. I did purchase something on Facebook yesterday.

Bone Necklace And Crow Gifts

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_03

Not the marketplace, but I bought a necklace. You did.

SPEAKER_02

Super cute. I love the the the cameo on it. Well, I love cameos anyway. So I really loved it. I love the chain, I love everything. But the vertebrae, it looks like uh what ox ox? Uh yes, an ox call, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I got a necklace that is a raccoon vertebrae with a very long chain and a cameo that sits at the other end of the chain. So it's like a drip down.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. I can't wait to get it. It is super pretty.

SPEAKER_04

And um, in case you don't know, my I my crow friends brought me a gift, yeah, and it was the vertebrae of a small mammal, according to AI. I thought it was a knuckle at first. And I was like, maybe we should keep this on the down low, but maybe they're now if we're playing this game, cruise bringing me the body parts of my enemies. I'm cool with that.

SPEAKER_02

I love that they knew what you wanted.

SPEAKER_04

Right? They can't see in the house, I don't think. No, maybe they can. Oh maybe they look in the window and they're like, let's see, what should we get her? There's an awful lot of bones in there. And we have a lot of bones. There's a lot of dead things in there. We don't want to be one of them, so yeah. I don't know how they knew it, but I don't know how else it would have gotten there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And because it was like old. Yeah. I mean, it didn't have flesh or anything on it. It was an older bone. They had to have left it. Yeah, because it wasn't. I can't imagine anything would have been moving old bones around. No, no.

SPEAKER_02

And typically they might bring you something like shiny or something, but they skip right over the shiny. She's not shiny.

SPEAKER_04

They don't like she doesn't need anything shiny. We don't, we're gonna go right for the good stuff. I'm pretty damn excited about it.

SPEAKER_02

It is awesome. So it's how much help right now. If you get another bone, I'm just gonna die.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god, I hope it's another knuckle. Piece it together.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh. Yeah, they can bring you the whole body. One piece at a time.

SPEAKER_04

This whole body can be a fun little puzzle. I just got cross-stitched the other day and I started my cross stitch. Oh, I miss cross stitch. I got um a whole Google Drive.

SPEAKER_02

I have too much arthritis in my hands. I don't think I could do it. It's very hard to see, also.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and I'm really even with my glasses, it's not this. This you have to use black fabric, and it's so it's like a real struggle for me here. I'm gonna have to get a lamp or something to put behind me because it's it's been hard to see. But it's a cool ghost. The whole thing is I know this is gonna come as a shock, but it's all like skulls and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Cross stitch. Well, I'm glad you had a fun week. Sure.

Fish Tank Mistakes And Cycling Truth

SPEAKER_02

I even went, I finally got my fish tank set up. I let it run its course, I gave it all the stuff it's supposed to have. I went and bought five fish. Now two out were out of one tank, and three were out of a different tank. Three pinks, two greens. The one pink was dead before I went to bed. The other two pinks were dead this morning. But the greens are fine, so I blame them. And PetSmart will let you return them. Yeah, what kind of fish did you get? Tetras.

SPEAKER_04

So that's why. They're not very hard. They do you have a heater? Yeah. They're not very hardy fish.

SPEAKER_02

Well, they were the right colors that I wanted.

SPEAKER_04

Oh Lord, I'm ready.

SPEAKER_02

And PetSmart takes fish back. Fish got expensive. You used to be able to go buy one for like three, four bucks. These were like how long did you let it cycle? Two days.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah, no. It's gotta be like 30.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. For the bacteria or the uh everything said 48 hours. Yeah, and that's how they get new fish. That's how they get you to buy new fish.

SPEAKER_02

And I got the conditioner stuff and put in it, like it said. You gotta let it cycle. Well, Pet Smart will take them back. So I save their seat, and I have three dead pink fish in a baggie in my fridge until I can get to the Pet Smart. And I I don't think I want more fish yet. I need to make sure the other two are.

SPEAKER_04

Do not get more fish. Let it cycle with them. Okay. How many gallons? Ten. How many fish do you have? Two. No, I had five. Well, that was also the problem, too. You had too many in there, I think.

SPEAKER_02

I did all the Google stuff. I should have asked you.

SPEAKER_04

You should have. Because Google didn't tell me anything. I don't know if you know this, but I know a lot about fish tanks. I do know that you know that.

SPEAKER_02

But it said I had it's I I even Googled like the best fish for a 10-gallon tank, and these were on there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Goldfish.

SPEAKER_02

They're so dirty.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, but they're very good in a beta.

SPEAKER_02

I know, but I always feel bad for beta. They're all by themselves. Which I know they have to be because they'll kill anything else, but it's the only way. I when I was there getting my fish yesterday, um, these two girls came in and they told the girl that was getting my fish out they were looking for something to put in with their goldfish, and she was like, nothing. And they were like, Well, what about this? And she said goldfish will basically kill and eat anything. They were like, We won them at the fair, we have like four of them in different. Dang we wanted to add something. She's like, sorry.

SPEAKER_03

Especially those. Those are feeders. Yeah. From the fair. Uh-huh. They will eat anything.

SPEAKER_04

Because they're just meant to die.

SPEAKER_02

The poor girl slept so deflated. They'll probably just go to a different store and tell them it's about goldfish.

SPEAKER_04

And then they'll buy and then they'll they'll die. All of them are gonna die anyway. I got bad news for them. Fairfish don't. I did have a fairfish live like two years once.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So what kind of fish should I get besides goldfish? Or just should I do the beta? Well, what's your opinion on the beta? Are they lonely? Oh, because she even oh no, that was the goldfish. Because they even asked about getting a sucker fish or something else, and she's like, nope, they'll eat it.

SPEAKER_04

No, they won't eat it. They won't eat a suckerfish.

SPEAKER_02

That's what the pet smart ladies.

SPEAKER_04

Play c they stay away from them and they get in spots where they can't get. Well, but they're fair fish, so they're not I'm thinking I'm also thinking the fancy goldfish. Oh. You know what I'm talking about? The I mean fish are nasty, they will beat the shit out of each other. Yeah, they will kill each other. It's and especially in a 10-gallon tank. It's just not very big for their territory. All right, I'll stick with the two for now. Give it 30 days.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

You have to cycle. My tank's very pretty, though, I'm sure. All right, good. That's good to know. All right.

Why We Love Dance Movies

SPEAKER_02

This is my script I made last week when we both made scripts. And the funny thing is, let's fuck around and find out about 80s dance movies. We both went with movies. And you said movie, I was like, wow, we have the same idea. So somehow this um script ended up 18 pages long and almost 10,000 words. So wow. We're gonna see how far we get. Okay. I love dance movies.

SPEAKER_04

I can't wait to see if you have the ones I'm thinking of.

unknown

Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

Flashdance Plot And Fun Facts

SPEAKER_02

So the first one is Flash Dance.

SPEAKER_03

That was not the one I was thinking.

SPEAKER_02

Flash Dance is a 1983 American romantic drama dance film directed by Adrienne Lynn and starring Jennifer Beals as a passionate young dancer, Alex Owens, who aspires to become a professional ballerina alongside Michael Nori, who plays her boyfriend, and the owner of the steel mill where she works by day in Pittsburgh. It was the first collaboration of producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and the presentation of some sequences in the style of music videos was an influence on other 1980s films, including Footloose, Purple Rain, and Top Gun. I don't know if it's called Purp. I think it's called Purple Rain. Or I think it is. I don't know. Some prince something is going to Broadway. I want to say it's probably Purple Rain. I think so.

SPEAKER_03

Um I'm sure he'd roll in his grave on that.

SPEAKER_02

Um, it was also one of Lynn's first major film releases building on television commercials. Alex's elaborate dance sequences were shot using body doubles. Um and while it was a breakdance and a breakdance move was doubled by a male dancer. Of course. She's a maniac. We all saw what happened in the Olympics when someone that female tried to.

SPEAKER_04

She should not have been allowed to do that.

SPEAKER_02

Why didn't anybody nobody told her? No, I know. There's no way she practiced in a closet somewhere where nobody saw what she was doing. No one thought This is not gonna go well. It made her a lot of good memes for a really long time. But yeah, I feel bad for her. Uh Flash Dance premiered at the Warner Theater on April 14th, 1983, before being released by Paramount Pictures on April 15th, 1983. The film opened to negative reviews by professional critics, including Roger Ebert. He was such a Debbie Downer back. Every single movie that we do, Roger Ebert said it's up. Is he the one that got cancer? I think so. That's probably why. Yeah. And I remember I remember deciding at a very young age that I wasn't going to listen to movie critics because they never know. I think they're trying to be controversial. Um, let's see, he penned it as great sound and flash dance signifying nothing. Uh, and eventually placed it on his most hated list. Wow. It was a surprise box office success, becoming the third highest-grossing film in 1983 in the United States. Its worldwide box office gross exceeded $200 million. The soundtrack compiled by Giorgio Marauder spawned several hit songs, including Maniac. She's a man and the Academy Award-winning Flash Dance What a Feeling.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, what a feeling.

SPEAKER_02

Remember her? No. Uh Flash Dance is also often remembered for its film poster featuring Beals sporting a sweatshirt with a large neck hole. According to the actress, her look in the scene came about by accident after she simply cut a large hole at the top of one that had shrunk in the wash. Who hasn't done that? Um, Alex Owens is an 18-year-old welder at a steel mill in Pittsburgh who lives with her male pit bull dog, Grunt, in a converted warehouse. She aspires to become a professional dancer, but has no formal dance training and works as a nightly cabaret performer at Maubies Neighborhood Bar and Grill. Lacking family, Alex bonds with her co-workers at Maubies, some of whom also aspire to greater artistic achievements. Jeannie, a waitress, is trained to be a figure skater. Her boyfriend, short order cook Richie, hopes to become a stand-up comic. They just covered the gambit there. Uh one night, Alex catches the eye of customer Nick Hurley, the owner of the steel mill where she works. After learning that she is one of his employees, he pursues her on the job, though she turns down his advances. And that's illegal these days.

SPEAKER_01

Sure is.

SPEAKER_02

Alex is also approached by Johnny C, who wants her to dance at his nearby club, Zanzibar. After seeking counsel from her mentor, retired ballerina Hannah Long, Alex attempts to apply to Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance and Repertory. Intimidated by the scope of the application process, which includes listing all prior dance experience and education, she leaves without applying. Leaving Moby's one evening, Richie and Alex are assaulted by Johnny C and his bodyguard Cecil. Nick intervenes, and after following Alex home, the two begin a relationship. In a skating competition, Jeannie falls twice during her performance and sits defeated on the ice before being helped away. She is discouraged by her failure and the departure of Richie, who has decided to try his luck in Los Angeles. Alex gains the courage to apply to the conservatory. Nick covertly uses his connections with the arts council to get Alex an audition, as she does not have formal dance training. Upon discovering this, Alex is furious with Nick because she did not get the opportunity based on her own merit, so she decides not to go to the audition. It's about who you know, Chick. Everybody knows that. You gotta figure that out. After the sudden death of Hannah and seeing the results of others' failed dreams, Alex becomes despondent over her future. However, following an encouraging conversation with another dancer at Mobby's, Alex has a change of heart and goes through with the audition. After all, she just is fickle.

SPEAKER_03

She can't make up her mind. She can't get it together. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh at the audition, Alex falters but begins again and successfully completes a dance number composed of moves that she has studied and practiced, including breakdancing, which she has seen on the streets of Pittsburgh. The board responds favorably, and she joyously emerges from the conservatory to find Nick and Grunt waiting for her with a bouquet of roses.

Flashdance Trivia And Shatner Detour

SPEAKER_02

Can you believe William Shatner's 95?

SPEAKER_03

He doesn't look it.

SPEAKER_02

It blows my mind. Have you been seeing him in the news? No. He and his daughter, I think it was four years ago, were both battling stage four cancer at the same time. And they're just now coming out about it. Um and they're both still alive. Yeah. Um well, I mean, he's been the space, so yeah, but he's 95. Like, yeah, that's wild. And I love the commercials, the Will Shat on the car commercials. Oh my god, it's so funny.

SPEAKER_04

He he's in one of the Star Trek, the new Star Trek. I know. He does I can't watch it. The one that he's on. I don't I that I think it's the one that I can't watch. The Klingons are wrong. I don't care. I have heard they've changed them to be more Klingon because most people got upset about the fact that the Klingons weren't Klingons.

SPEAKER_02

But I haven't watched it since. Yeah. Who makes Star Trek movies now? I know Star Wars is made by Disney now, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh Paramount.

SPEAKER_02

I think that's where they both went wrong. When they got picked up by big big business. Alright. In April 1980, Thomas Headley sold the film idea for development to Casablanca, a new a Los Angeles production company, for $300,000 and 5% of the net, as reported in the Globe and Mail. Uh Headley based the concept on the lives of exotic dancers he had met with editor of Toronto Life magazine, such as Gina Healy and Maureen Martyr. Martyr and Healy were paid $2,500 each for their life stories.

SPEAKER_01

That's not enough. No.

SPEAKER_03

They can have my life story.

SPEAKER_02

Let's see. Adrian Lynn was not the first choice as director of Flashdance. David Cronenberg had turned down an offer to direct as he felt he would have destroyed the film, as he, oh, as had Brian De Palma, who instead chose to direct Scarface. Good choice. Didn't make out too bad there either. Probably a lot more popular. At the time, Lynn's background was primarily in directing television commercials, such as the 1970s UK commercials for Brutus Jeans. Lynn agreed to direct because he wanted to establish enough confidence from studios in his directorial skills to get his next film, Nine and a Half Weeks, approved. Executives at Paramount were unsure about the film's potential and sold 25% of the rates prior to its release.

unknown

Oops.

SPEAKER_02

Three candidates, Jennifer Beals, Demi Moore, and Leslie Wing were the finalists for the role of Alex Owens. Two different stories exist regarding how Beals was chosen. One states that then Paramount president Michael Eisner asked women uh secretaries at the studio to select their favorite after viewing screen tests. The other, the film screenwriter Asterhaus, claims that Eisner asked 200 of the most macho men on the lot, Teamsters and gaffers and grips. I want to know which of these three young women you'd most want to fuck. I guess probably both.

SPEAKER_04

I think both answers can be correct. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Anyway, uh the role of Nick Hurley was originally offered to KISS founding member Gene Simmons, who turned it down because it would conflict with his demon image. Kevin Costner, a struggling actor at the time, came very close for the role of Nick, which went to Michael Nori. Flashdance was the first success of a number of filmmakers who became successful in the 1980s and beyond. The film was the first collaboration between Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, who went on to produce Beverly Hills Top and Top Gun. Esther has received his second screen credit for Flash Dance, while Lynn went on to direct Nine and a Half Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal. I see a theme here. And Losita. Linda Oopst was developed, who developed the original story, outlined, went on to produce Adventures in Babysitting, The Fisher King, one of my all-time favorite movies. One of your favorite movies. And Sleepless in Seattle. How about you? That's where my youngest got her name. I know. Flash Dance is often remembered for the sweatshirt with a large neck hole that Beals wore on the poster advertising the film. Beals, uh, yep, I already read that part. I mean, I didn't, but um let's see here. Flash Dance What a Feeling was performed by Irene Kara, who also sang the title song for the similar 1980 film Fame. Fame!

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna live a bit.

SPEAKER_02

The music for Flash Dance What a Feeling was composed by Giorgio Marauder, and the lyrics were written by Kara and Keith Forcy. Uh, it won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Another song used in the film Maniac. She's a maniac. And Heather's hair looks like a maniac right now. She just took her ponytails out. She took her little piggy tails out. It hurt my head. Um, was nominated for an Oscar Award. It uh a popular urban legend holds that the song was originally written for the 1980 horror film Maniac, and that lyrics about a killer on the loose were rewritten so the song could be used in Flashdance. Why just write a different song? It's too fast for horror. Yeah, for sure. Uh the soundtracked album for Flashdance sold 700,000 copies in its first two weeks. Nice. And then it sold over six million. All right, I think that's it for Flashdance. Okay.

Footloose And The Dancing Ban

SPEAKER_02

My next one. One of my favorites.

SPEAKER_01

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_02

Which means you're not gonna like it. Foot loose. Yeah. Oh my god, I just watched this movie recently. I love it so much. Actually, I got tricked. I was flipping because now we're at this age. I don't know if this happens to you, but you'll flip through and I'll see a movie title. And I'm like, oh, and I'll turn it on, but it's a remake that they made. Yeah. Like, um, like with Footloose. I turned it on, it's a footloose. Oh, cool, it's just coming on. I turned it on and I'm like, wait a minute. Who's that? This isn't Footloose. It's happened to me a number of times. I've turned on movies and been like, God damn it.

SPEAKER_04

The Bacon brothers were just at the bottle in Cork and they did they sang Footloose. Of course. I love it. And he did the dance. Well, kind of. He's getting old, so he is.

SPEAKER_02

Um, all right, Footloose is a 1984 American musical drama film, uh, directed by Herbert Ross and written by Dean Pitchford. It tells the story of Ren McCormick, Kevin Bacon, a teenager from Chicago who moves to a small town where he attempts to overturn a ban on dancing, enforced by the efforts of the local minister, another one of my favorites, John Lithgow.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, God, he was in that.

unknown

I loved him.

SPEAKER_02

I think I truly fell in love with him on Dexter. Yeah, like I always liked him, but God, that role, he was amazing. He's an amazing actor. He is, but that's where you really saw it because it was always like funny kind of things, I think. I mean, this was a serious role, but he was a preacher father, so yeah. But yeah, he he was man, and that season messed me up. It took me a while to watch it after what happened in that season. I was like, yeah, yeah, I can't do this show anymore.

SPEAKER_04

I don't even know if I ever finished it.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't finish traumatized.

SPEAKER_04

I got the I stopped watching right before the last season. I could see where it was going and I didn't like the way it was gonna I could see where how it was gonna end. I didn't yeah, I didn't like the way it was gonna end.

SPEAKER_03

Gotcha.

SPEAKER_02

Uh the film was released on February 17, 1984, by Paramount Pictures and received mixed reviews from critics, but was a box office success, grossing $80 million in North America, becoming the seventh highest grossing film of 1984. Again, the critics are wrong. Yeah. The songs Foot Loose by Kenny Loggins and Let's Hear It for the Boy by Denise uh Williams were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Oh, she's dancing. I thought she was gonna sing. Nope. Um Chicago natives Ren McCormick and his mother Ethel move to the small town of Beaumont, Utah to live with Ren's aunt and uncle. At church, he meets the strict Reverend Shaw Moore, his wife V, or Vi, um, and their rebellious daughter Ariel.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you know what? I um so I haven't watched Footloose that many times. I've seen it. I actually had never seen Flash Dance, but I have seen Footloose. And it's just now occurring to me that they were in Utah. I didn't know they were in Utah.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think I ever realized they were in Utah.

SPEAKER_04

And that would make now it makes a lot more sense. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

I get it now.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And honestly, if you would have put a little thought into it and been like, where would you not be allowed to dance? I get it. Utah would be good. Um, at school, Ren befriends Willard Hewitt. He learns that the town council has band dancing and rock music within the town boundary. Wren falls for Ariel, angering her boyfriend Chuck Cranston, who challenges Wren to a game of chicken involving tractors. Ren wins only because his shoelace gets caught preventing him from jumping away. Right.

SPEAKER_03

Remember. And he probably wasn't wearing special underwear. Definitely not. Like the rest of the town.

SPEAKER_02

Reverend Moore forbids Ariel from seeing Ren. Ren drives Willard, Ariel, and her friend Rusty to a bar across the state line to go dancing. Willard, unable to dance, becomes jealous and gets into a fight with a man dancing with Rusty. Uh on the drive home, Ariel describes how five years later, her older brother died in a car accident after a night of alcohol and dancing.

unknown

God damn it.

SPEAKER_04

That it's not the alcohol that's the problem. No, it was the dancing.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, exactly. Speaking of alcohol, did you see who got a DUI?

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_02

Tony Romo. Oh, yes, I did too.

unknown

I did say that.

SPEAKER_02

Did you see a sobriety test? It was almost adorable, actually. He's like, did I do it right?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man. Oh, Tony Romo. Um, their father then persuaded the town council to enact strict anti-liquor, anti-drug, and anti-dance laws. Ren decided decides to challenge the dance, dancing, and rock music band so the high school can hold a senior prom. Willard is embarrassed he cannot dance, so Ren teaches him. Chuck confronts Ariel about her feelings for Wren, and they get into a physical altercation before breaking up. Ren helps Ariel conceal the physical assault, cementing their relationship. Someone throws a brick through Ren's window with the words burn in hell. When his uncle criticizes Wren's outspoken behavior, Ethel tells Wren that though his actions cost her her job, he should stand up for what he believes is right. Dancing. Yes. We have no income, but you dance. You go dance, baby.

SPEAKER_04

That's the hill you want to die on.

SPEAKER_02

All right. With Ariel's help, Ren goes before the town council to advocate revoking the anti-dancing law. He reads Bible verses and cites the scriptural significance of dancing to rejoice, exercise, and celebrate. Reverend Moore is moved, but the council votes against Ren. Vite supports Wren and tells Moore that he cannot be everyone's father and is hardly one to Ariel. Oh shit.

SPEAKER_04

No, she didn't. Well, here's the other thing, too. I know it's a movie. Whatever. But if you ban it in the town, isn't that just forcing everybody out of town? Which makes it far more likely. Accidents from crazy dancing are gonna happen if you're making them go over state lines to dance. All right, just check in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and it is just a movie, but I'm sure there were towns that banned dancing.

SPEAKER_04

There actually, I do know that of one Fenwick Island, Delaware was one, and that was the big joke when I was in the 90s. Is that why you don't dance? That's why I don't dance. Well, because one of the bars was trying to put a dance floor in. And so the town council didn't want they didn't want it to be a bar bar was the problem. So they banned dancing. It's the true story. Makes much sense as foot loose. If they're still here, you should ask my mom and dad about it.

SPEAKER_02

Uh despite discussing with Ren his own family losses, and Ariel telling her father she is not a virgin. Oh Reverend Moore does not change his stance. He finds members of his congregation burning library books that they claimed endangered the youth down to.

SPEAKER_03

That just escalated quick.

SPEAKER_02

We're just gonna burn this bitch to the ground. Burn books. Makes a lot of sense. Moore chastised the book burners and sends them home. On Sunday, Reverend.

SPEAKER_04

You're not gonna get your own planet.

SPEAKER_02

Knock it off. On Sunday, Reverend Moore asked his congregation to pray for the students putting on the prom in a grain mill just over the county line, beyond Beaumont's jurisdiction. Just like you said. Now they have to get all the way home.

SPEAKER_04

And obviously, you're pretty close to somewhere else. So, like, yeah. This whole the you've lost me on this whole premise. I've decided I hate this movie now. It all falls apart when you think about it.

SPEAKER_02

It was the 80s. On prom nightmore, and by listen, outside the mill. Chuck and his friends arrive attacking Willard. Wren arrives and knocks out Chuck. Wren, Ariel, Willard, and Rusty rejoin the party and dance the night away. Dean Pitchford uh came up with the idea for Footloose in 1979 and teamed up with Daniel Melnick's Indy Prad, who set the production up for the 20th century Fox in 1981. Pitchford wrote the screenplay, which was his first, and most of the lyrics. However, Fox put it into turnaround. Uh in 1982, Paramount Pictures made a pay or play deal for the film. When negotiations with Herbert Ross initially stalled, Ron Howard was approached to direct the film, but he turned it down to direct Splash instead. Mm-hmm. Another awesome movie that I have not seen in a very long time.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sure it doesn't hold up.

unknown

God no.

SPEAKER_02

Oh God no. I'm just like picturing the opening scene and I'm like, no. No. Michael Camino, who uh was hired by Paramount to direct the film. Um let's see. Tom Cruise and Rob Lowe were both slated to play the lead. I'm glad they didn't put Tom Cruise in.

SPEAKER_04

I fucking hate that.

SPEAKER_02

Then I would have to hate that movie. Uh the producers were impressed with Cruz because of his famous underwear dance sequence in Risky Business. But he was unavailable for the part because he was filming all the right moves.

SPEAKER_03

And also a Scientologist.

SPEAKER_04

They're kind of at odds with the movie people from Utah.

SPEAKER_02

Mormons. Or Latter-day Saints.

SPEAKER_04

I wasn't gonna say.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think it's a secret. Uh low audition three times, which I love Roblo. Um I I and I think I felt more I don't I don't think I was like a big fan of his as a kid. Like I'm sure I had his pictures up on my walls, but Parks and Rec is what really made me fall in love with him.

SPEAKER_04

I was not a fan of Roblo.

SPEAKER_03

I think he's much more better looking. He is much better looking now than he was. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh so he auditioned three times and had the dancing ability and the neutral teen look that the director wanted, but injury prevented him from taking the part.

SPEAKER_03

Kevin Bacon's pretty much the perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Like, and I hope they realized that back then, too. Like, thank God those other two guys didn't do it. Uh, Christopher Adkins claims that he was cast as Ren, but lost the role. Bacon had been offered the main role for the Stephen King film Christine at the same time that he was asked to do the screen test for Footloose. There were just so many movies happening at this time.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

With all the same actors. He chose to take the gamble on the screen test. After watching his earlier film Diner, the director persuaded the producers to go with Bacon.

SPEAKER_04

Do you know what my favorite Kevin Bacon movie is? Tremors? No. Murder in the First. Great. Mostly because Gary Ullman is also in it. Oh, yeah, yeah. But it is a great movie. It's very sad.

SPEAKER_02

Uh all right. For his dance scene in the warehouse, Bacon said he had four stunt doubles. I had a stunt double, a dance double, and two gymnastics doubles. Which I kind of broke my heart when I saw that. I thought he did all the dancing. But he didn't. No. Um foot. Oh, here we go. Footloose is based loosely based on the town of Elmore City, Oklahoma. The town had banned dancing since its founding in 1898 in an attempt to decrease the amount of heavy drinking. Makes a lot of sense. It's still not working. People still get drunk and dance. So you don't, yeah. You can't stop it. Uh one advocate of the dance band was the reverend from the nearby town of Hennepin, Fr. Johnson. He said, No good has ever come from a dance. I'm gonna have to agree. If you have if you have a dance, somebody will crash it. Agreed. They'll be looking for two things trouble. Women and booze. Women and booze. Or trouble. Same thing. A hundred percent. I agree. I agree. When boys and girls hold each other, they get sexually aroused. That's it. You can believe what you want, but one thing leads to another. Yep. Has nothing to do with hormones. No sign. Nope.

SPEAKER_04

It's dancing. Yeah. Yep. I agree. Yep. Yep. Yep. We should ban it. Yep. Worldwide. No more dancing.

SPEAKER_02

That would make me so sad.

SPEAKER_04

I don't ever dance, so it's fine.

SPEAKER_02

Uh, because of the ban on dancing, the town never held a problem.

SPEAKER_04

That's actually a complete lie. I was just thinking about I was dancing yesterday. I dance all the time. Like all the time. I actually danced just a little bit ago.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh. I got home yesterday and what song was it? I can't remember even what song it was. But I was rocking out hard. So I sat in my driveway. I did turn it down a little bit so that my neighbors hopefully wouldn't hear. But I sat in the car for the last half of the song and danced. And then I got out of the car, and a lady was walking her dog and just coming up behind my car. And I just looked and she smiled and waved. I was like, sorry. Um, let's see. On February 1980, the junior class of Elmore City's high school made national news when they requested permission to hold a junior prom and it was granted. Took till 1980, from 1898. That's nuts. Oh, the request to overturn the band to hold prom was met with a 2-2 decision from the school board. We're still not on board with that. Um gosh darn it. Oh my gosh. What is happening?

SPEAKER_04

You have been dancing too much.

SPEAKER_02

The school board president Raymond Lee broke the tie with the words let them dance. Let them dance.

SPEAKER_03

Let's dance. Oh, please.

SPEAKER_02

That was last week. Oh, yeah. Uh the soundtrack was released in cassette, eight-track tape, vinyl, real-to-reel, and CD format. That is a lot of things. I didn't realize they had CDs in '84. No. I don't know. Maybe it came out later. Yeah. The 1984 Open Reel release was among the last commercial releases on the format. I bet. The soundtrack was also re-released on CD for the 15th anniversary of the film in 1999. There you go. That's when it came out on CD. Um, the re-release included four new songs: Bang Your Head by Quiet Riot. Uh-huh. Bang Your Head. Hurt So Good by John Mellencamp. Hurt So Good. Waiting for a Girl Like You by Foreigner. I've been waiting. And the extended 12-inch remix of Dancing in the Sheets. Remember? Um Dancing in the Sheets. That was Bowie too. That's dancing. No, that's dancing in the Sheets. Dancing in the Sheets. Alright, hold on. I do know Dancing in the Sheets. That's risky. Oh yeah. It's dirty. Um, all right. The album included Footloose, I'm Free, Help and Help Heaven Helps the Man by Kenny Loggins. Holding Out for a Hero by the late great Bonnie Tyler. R.A.P. Um Girl Gets a Round by Sammy Hagar. Never by The Motion Pictures. Let's Hear It for the Boy by Denise Williams. Dancing in the Sheets was by Shalamar. According to Bacon, whatever he attends weddings, the DJ would play Footloose. And people would start clapping for him like a trained monkey. He would request DJs to not play the song so he would not look like one.

SPEAKER_04

For the love of God, I will give you a thousand dollars if you do not play Footloose. That's what you have to do. You have to go to the DJ before everything starts. And is like, here is a thousand dollars. I will come for you if you play Footloose.

SPEAKER_02

I don't even care if the bride asks for it. Nobody. You don't own it. You've never even heard of it. Uh let's see. The film received mixed reviews from critics. Chicago Sun-Times critic, guess who? Roger Ebert. Of course, that bad. Called it a seriously confused movie that tries to do three things and does all of them badly. It wants to tell the story of a conflict in a town. It wants to introduce some flashy teenage characters. And part of the time it wants to be a music video. So he doesn't like his movies layered. He doesn't like anything. Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. What movie has just one straight storyline with nothing? Whatever. Um, I'm really hating on Roger Ebert today. He's bringing my rage back out. Uh-oh. Better reel it in. Dave Denby in New York re-christianed, re-christened the film Schlock Dance, writing, Footloose may be a hit, but it's trash. High-powered fodder for the teen market. The only person to come out of the film better off is the smooth-cheeked pug-nosed bacon who gives a cocky but likable Mr. Cool performance.

unknown

Wow. It's aggressive.

SPEAKER_02

Jane Lamacroft reassessed the film for sight and sounds forgotten pleasures of the multiplex feature in 2010, writing nearly three decades on Bacon's vest clad set piece dance in a flower mill looks cheesily 1980s, but the rest of Ross's drama wears its age well. Um

More Dance Movies Next Time

SPEAKER_02

and Heather informs me now that we are almost at an hour, and I still have at least two left. So I think we're gonna cut it short there, and you guys will get another dance movie. Not next time. No, because it's mine week next week. Yeah, but not even the next time after that. Like I have an idea for my next one. Okay, I think.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But oh yeah, there's still a lot. A lot left. A lot, a lot, a lot. A lot, a lot. I'm only at like page nine out of 18.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah. Is breaking two electric boogaloo on there?

SPEAKER_02

No. What? No, and actually, I'm excited because there was another one I wanted to add, but not in 10,000 words electric boogaloo.

SPEAKER_04

It was not. Damn it.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah. I bet Dirty Dancing's on there.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's a yes. Of course. I hate that movie. I know you do. Yeah, that one really doesn't hold up, but I still it's got enough nostalgia for me because when I was a kid, I loved it. I went and saw the door dirty dancing on tour. I have no doubt. Where like everybody was on the soundtrack. Yeah. Yeah. It was at the Y Comico Youth and Civic Center. Yeah. Where all the good concerts used to be. Oh yeah. So um, so yeah, but so I will still watch it, but I watch it with one eye closed.

SPEAKER_04

Like I can't I never like that movie. I don't care if baby's in the corner or not.

SPEAKER_03

I don't well, it popped in my head last week when you were talking about the um the the oh the yeah the David Bowie, yeah, and Jennifer Connolly. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Because I think Jennifer Gray was only 16. Yeah, she was young, and he was in his 30s. And even in the movie, she was 16 and he was in his 30s. And it just was I wonder why they went with that back then. Like it seems like it was a running theme. Like, I could think of a couple other movies like that. I mean why didn't you just make her 18 and him 23? I mean, why is it?

SPEAKER_04

Because I think she was with her parents, so you have to and he worked there and had had life experiences and stuff. So I mean, I'll keep myself out of it, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It still doesn't make it okay. No, by any stretch, it sure doesn't.

SPEAKER_03

No, so yeah, I was 16 once.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think I stuck with boys my age, but I did not. Yeah, I know. That's why I say take myself out of it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they were grown mass men.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. No, you're right. You're 100% right. I need to stop.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, yep, yep, but it wasn't right, but it wasn't right.

SPEAKER_02

And the funny thing is, if I see something in the news like 23-year-old is arrested for having sex with a 15-year-old, I'm like, oh my god, ew. Like, get him off the street. Like, and that's a lot closer together than a lot of what we're talking about.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, he's still a kid in a way. His brain is not fully functioning.

SPEAKER_02

His brain hasn't functioned uh developed and he hasn't had the life experiences yet of a 30-year-old via. Anyway, one of these days we're gonna figure all this out. Will we though? If we keep talking about it, maybe I don't think we will. Alright, I'm good with that too. We'll just talk about it forever.

SPEAKER_04

I

Epstein Files And Power Protection

SPEAKER_04

mean I'm not in the Epstein files a million times. So I I'm not in the Epstein files more than Epstein was. I'm just saying. Falci. I really wish you could I want I really would like to know if you can do that.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure you're just in contempt, but I think you might get away with it once or twice. And I think the judge would put a stop to it. I mean, he does have to keep order in the court, I guess. And they do have to keep their professional. Yeah. And they're not there to talk about the Epstein Files. Even though they should be. They should be. Yep. Which what is up with it? Is it just gonna go away now? I mean, it's what I knew.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, that's what I knew it's what was gonna happen anyway. I mean, they're gonna bomb another country, I guess, if that comes back up. So maybe we should. That's why it just this is exact this is why it hasn't been released before. Again, when everybody says, oh, well, Obama and Biden were in the in power and they could have released it. No, they couldn't. Because everybody knows who's in it, and it's the most powerful people, and so they knew they were keeping it shut too, because yeah, I mean, I make it right.

SPEAKER_02

These boys' clubs uh exist everywhere. Yes, and they're still going on. Yeah, um, this one just happened to get uncovered and exposed to the public. So, yeah, a lot of powerful people, Democrats, Republicans, actors.

SPEAKER_04

That's why it's not been released, and that's why when I don't know on what Trump was smoking the day. Oh, I know I do know. I do know. I shouldn't say I don't know what he was. He he knew that his his followers are fucking stupid and will believe anything that comes out of his dumbass mouth, even though he knew he was in the files over a million times, and so he just thinks he can he can get he, I mean, he flat out told you he could shoot somebody in the middle of Manhattan and get the fuck away with it.

SPEAKER_02

He's right, he did, he has proven it time and time again that that is the truth. Did you see at the redo of the correspondence? Uh-huh. He tried to roast Bruce Springsteen and was saying all these mean, nasty things and like crickets. Crickets. Yeah, you can't fuck with Bruce. You're not gonna fuck with Bruce. I don't care if Republicans are. Everybody knows he's a liberal, but I mean, I think you just have to you let it go. Yeah, yeah. Don't go after Bruce.

SPEAKER_04

No, Bruce is sacred. He is well, thanks for giving us some dance. Time to dance. Yeah, that was fun. It was fun. You know what else we haven't done? Your diary in a couple weeks. Really? Yeah, next week. It's gonna have to wait till diary is on summer break, right? Yeah, the diary is on summer break.

Why Weekends Feel Too Short

SPEAKER_04

I wish I was on summer break. I know. I'm so sick of working. I know what's that about? It's not right, and then you just try, you take a vacation, and it's not long enough.

SPEAKER_02

No, and really on vacation, all you're doing is counting down the days that you have to go back to work. Yeah, I try really hard to consciously savor Friday at 3:30. That's what time I get off work. I'm like, all right, this is it. This is the start. The whole weekend is ahead of you.

SPEAKER_04

That time is the greatest joy you can ever feel until you go to sleep. Right. And then you wake up the next day and it's gone. Yeah, you got shit to do. I I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Next thing you know, you're gone to bed, and then it's the next day and you gotta go to work.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And I only get one day off.

SPEAKER_02

Right. For you, it's even worse.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. So, like that Saturday afternoon when I get off work, my drive home, it's like the greatest feeling in the whole world.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, nobody can upset you.

SPEAKER_04

You're just like even though it takes me seven hours to get home on a Saturday afternoon. Good thing, I guess. I have that long drive to enjoy my butt. Because you have the whole time ahead of you. And once you go to bed, it's all over because then it's I always say Friday's my favorite day of the week. Yeah. And it's not the getting up and going to work part.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_04

No. And this is more than I've ever had to work anyway. So I don't think it's right. No way. Um and uh yeah, consecutively.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I guess you used to have winters off.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

See, everybody, I used to- I'm like, man, you used to work like I would work all my whole salary in the summer. I worked like Mar April, May, somewhere in there to like end of September, October, seven days a week, however many out, 14, 15 hours a day. But then Thanksgiving to St. Patrick's Day, I did not work.

SPEAKER_02

And you had a stash of cash. Yes. To get you through the window.

SPEAKER_04

Did not work at all. Yeah. So this having to work year-round nonsense. Yeah, it's for the birds. It really is. Padded. Anyway. Anyway. Well, thanks for doing that. Yeah. Thanks
